Emily Woznak recommends Wellington Court
Wellington Court is at the end of John St. and owned by MSC. Its tucked away at the end of the street, but just off 14th and with a shortcut through The Fred's parking lot, only 5 minutes away from Boylan side of The Corner. The location is great if you want to be close to The Corner but not pay Wertland Square/GrandMarc prices. Its 1399 a month, about $700 a person. These are 2 story, 2 bedroom, 1 full and 1 half bath townhouses. I really like the layout having living room, kitchen, dining area, and half bath on the first floor with the bedrooms and full bath upstairs.- This layout lends itself to a homier feel. I share one of the rooms- so there are 3 of us living here-and the closet and room is big enough for 2 girls to each have a twin bed, dresser, bedside table and desk. Each bedroom has at least 1 window in it. The washer and dryer are located upstairs, along with a lien closet. The 2nd bedroom has a huge closet that takes up most of one wall. The kitchen has stainless steel fridge, oven and dishwasher. The cabinets are lovely and not the usual plain off white minimalistic ones you see in cheap college apartments. There is a pantry in the kitchen with shelves inside. The stovetop is flat and electric. There is a window in the kitchen and a sliding glass door that leads to a very nice size deck! This isn't a 2 person narrow balcony most apartments have. This is an actual deck- big enough for a round table and 4 outdoor chairs with room to spare! A Privacy wall separates some of the decks, depending on where in the row of apartments you are. The dining area is decently sized- we have a round kitchen table, 4 chairs, a coffee bar, and a shelving unit all in the space. The living room is a very nice size, plenty of open space to fit 2 chairs, a couch, coffee table, large TV stand/storage thing and a futon with tons of leftover space in the middle. There is a very large storage area in the living room in a closet- it goes along the stairs like in Harry Potter- but also includes the water heater/circuit breaker but leaves TONS of space for storage. All of the rooms except for the kitchen and dining area require floor lamps for lighting. There is an outdoor light right next to the front door that's great for safety. The parking lot is limited- one row of reserved parking for residents and the rest first come first served- with a parking pass that costs $40 (one time fee). Tons of people get towed from the lot without parking stickers so don't let your guests park there. The best part about living in Wellington is the homey feel. In addition to the 2 story town house and back deck, Wellington has grassy areas for pets and a convenient mailbox. I can step right out the front door vs walking down flights of stairs in an apartment complex. It truly feels like I live in a neighborhood of little houses because it is tucked away at the end of the street and landscaping is well taken care of. There is a blue light for emergency in the grassy "backyard" area. Sometimes it is a bit noisy if the people next door are playing very loud music or yelling, but this usually only happens on Thurs-Sat. nights. MSC does a great job of clearing snow from the parking lot as soon as possible. They also maintain the landscaping very well. Additionally, all the work orders have been met the next day by kind and knowledgable maintenance men. Overall I would highly recommend Wellington Court! A roommate and I are thinking about moving back for 4th year!
